The campaign to “sleep better” is initiated by Nithra Institute of Sleep Sciences which is India’s first freestanding comprehensive canter for diagnosis & management of sleep problems.
Sleep problems are common but often ignored. There is a growing need to create awareness on importance of good sleep for good health and to prevent long term medical problems. Nithra Institute is committed to increasing the awareness on this important health issue and help the world sleep better.
How much sleep is enough?
Sleep needs vary significantly. The sleep requirement of an individual is that which makes one feel refreshed and allows him/her to function normally the following day. In general, most healthy adults need an average of six to eight hours of sleep a night. Surveys indicate that over 60 percent of adults experience problems with sleep. However, only few recognize the importance of adequate rest and are aware that effective methods of preventing and managing sleep problems now exist.
Sleep is not merely a “time out” from our busy routines; it is essential for good health, mental and emotional functioning and safety. Researchers have found that people with chronic insomnia (lack of adequate sleep) are more likely than others to develop several kinds of psychiatric problems. Even occasional sleeping problems can make daily life feel more stressful and less productive. Sleep loss has been found to impair the ability to perform tasks involving memory, learning, and logical reasoning. This may contribute to mistakes or unfulfilled potential at school or on the job and strained relationships at home.
This campaign is an initiative of Nithra Institute to spread awareness and make every individual pledge to sleep better.
Come, Join hands, and take the pledge!
